After announcing interest in Oliver Norwood at the end of last season, Keith Hill has failed to persuade to the midfielder to join him at Oakwell.
A £400,000 fee was agreed with Norwood’s previous club, Manchester United, however Huddersfield Town boss Simon Grayson decided to match Barnsley’s offer and the player ultimately chose to continue his career at the Galpharm Stadium where it is believed the financial package offered to him was somewhat better than the chiefs at Oakwell were prepared to offer.
Norwood’s decision will be a blow to Hill who has a clear plan for his rebuilding of the Barnsley team following lessons that were learnt in the second half of last season where a squad that lacked any strength in depth could very easily have been relegated after being comfortably in the top half of the table for first half of the season.
Barnsley will now be hoping that Jacob Butterfield will decide to spend at least another season at Oakwell amid serious interest from several Premier League and Championship clubs.
