Barnsley’s preparations for the new season have been dealt another blow with the friendly game with Hibs in Edinburgh called-off by the referee due to a waterlogged pitch.
After the cancellation of the Feyenoord friendly on police advice, this is another major setback as Keith Hill will have to wait even longer to see his new team in competitive action.
Several-hundred Reds fans were expected to make the trip to Scotland and they now face a long journey back as heavy rain earlier in the day, with more forecast for later, meant the referee had no choice but to deem the pitch unplayable and unsafe.
Hibernian have confirmed that they won’t be attempting to re-arrange the game – a full refund will be given to fans who purchased tickets in advance.
